| A dialogue of civilizations. |
Following introductions to their ‘civilisations’ from each panellist, young delegates put pre-selected, challenging questions to the panel. Questions like – • If you believe in life after death, why put any effort into life before death? • The rights and wrongs of abortion • What is the point of Human Rights? – if, 60 years after the signing of the Universal Declaration, governments have not allowed themselves to surrender to the authority of an international body to which people whose human rights have been abused can appeal – why have them? Aren’t they a distraction? • How can democratic civilisations deal with long-term problems like climate change? - climate change will only become a real problem 20-30 years from now, but, in elections, politicians are looking to deliver the maximum comfort and services to people for the next 4-5 years. Following the panel discussions, the ‘audience’ breaks into small groups to go deeper into each of these and other questions to find out where the synergies and conflicts lie between our different interpretations of the word, ‘civilisation.’ The dialogue is also designed to allow different generations to identify where they agree and disagree. • Moderator: Driss Guerraoui • Invités: Mae Mendelson; Iain Fleming; + A muslim, an Indigenous Canadian, an Atheist etc. |

| Anything is Possible |

| Xtactics: Yinpowerment (3heures) |
Today’s times call for radical changes in how we live and operate together as a human family. There is a need to bring forth feminine qualities (also referred to as Yin energy) within patriarchal, masculine, ‘yang’ dominated social realms. This leadership model, titled YinPowerment, is for both women and men alike who long to transform competition into collaboration, individualism into community, and domination into partnership. YinPowerment transforms the hierarchical, linear forms of interaction into action circles as a means to stimulate decision-making, visioning, and co-creation. Action Circles are a catalyst for positive change, locally and globally. The process of creating these Circles is a spirit-filled time and place where collective creativity and wisdom is unveiled, and voices get heard, empowered and activated. Such contexts create a hub for miracles to emerge and work to magic to be fostered in one’s life work. |

| UNDESA/Division for Sustainable Development - The UN Commission on Sustainable Development Needs Youth |
Involvement of today's youth in decision-making processes is essential to the successful implementation of sustainable development policies and programmes. The UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) seeks to advance the role of youth and actively involve them in the protection of the environment and the promotion of economic and social development. Agenda 21 states that “it is imperative that youth from all parts of the world participate actively in all relevant levels of decision-making processes because it affects their lives today and has implications for their futures. In addition to their intellectual contribution and their ability to mobilize support, they bring unique perspectives that need to be taken into account.” CSD meetings consistently provide innovative spaces for the participation of youth and other major groups, with the overall purpose of informing the Commission’s decision-making processes. Youth infuse the CSD with new ideas and information, and present challenges that enrich the inter-governmental debate. They participate in interactive dialogues, develop coordinated statements through the CSD Youth Caucus, and lobby for particular initiatives that they feel should be supported. They also contribute significantly to sustainable development initiatives surrounding the CSD process. This workshop will be comprised of a presentation on how youth can engage in CSD, followed by questions and discussion among participants. It is designed to highlight the role of youth in CSD, explore opportunities to contribute to and impact the process, and mobilize action for increased youth participation in upcoming CSD meetings. |

| Working Group on Youth-Pacific UN Agencies - Sexual minorities: A Polynesian Perspective. |
Sexual minorities in the Polynesian Islands of the South Pacific are emphatically defined in accordance with their gender. Sexuality although it was part of it, was and is still considered sensitive in this concept of sexual minorities. They are considered part of the Polynesian societies culture and tradition, although this is quite controversial due to the Christianised understanding in these socieities, whereby Christianity is now also part of these societies culture and traditions. The influence of colonialism saw a sudden change on these socieities ancient religion, lifestyles, governance and laws, these changes greatly influenced the perception of Polynesian people towards sexual minorities in their societies. These saw the use of the term "taboo" where the talk of sexual minorities is grossly silenced. Since then, sexual minorities have taken a different approach for their societies to accept them as part of their old culture and traditions. This is where majority of sexual minorities then tend to take up the role of carers, prototectors and providers of their families as highly important. This is where they perform the duties and responsibilities of both genders particulalry in supporting their families. Somehow, these moves have been successful whereby most are highly regarded and highly respected in these socieities for, to an extent. However, most, have started to realise that this is living a lie and pretense whereby their roles and responsiblities are expectations placed on them by their own Polynesian societies, simply to avoid asking the question of sexual and gender identity. This is where many sexual minorities, start asking "what about a duty and responsibility to myself". Some have searched the answers to this question, and the consequences have been colourful involving the colours of death itself. |

| The role of Youth-led development in post-conflict African countries |
Africa is known to be a conflict ridden continent. It is important to note the vulnerability of youths in these conflict torn countries. Most of them were used as perpetrators of violence, fighting for a cause they may not even know – some of which may not even be in their best interest. And often, when the conflict is resolved, youth find themselves even more marginalized, vulnerable and with a bleak future. So youth must be involved in the healing, rehabilitation and reconstruction of their respective regions. This workshop will analyze the role of the youth in post war situations. It will look at how these young people can become positive change agents, designing initiatives geared towards development including monitoring and evaluation strategies. The participants will hear from experts who would walk them through the process. There will be PowerPoint presentations on how to start youth interventions in rebuilding states that have failed due to war. In the end, recommendations and plan of action will be produced. It will include implementation, monitoring and evaluation strategies. This will serve as a tool kit and resource material for other youth programs. |

The objective of the workshop is to get to know and discuss the role of women in building a more solidary and sustainable economy. From two concrete examples (Brazil and Sri Lanka) the participants of the workshop will be invited to "build" the “woman” who has been promoting a new configuration of the economy, in search of better conditions and quality of life. The workshop will have a moment for presentation of the participants, and then they’ll be able to know concrete experiences of women who are developing Solidarity Economy in Brazil and Social Economy in Sri Lanka (how Economic development of Tsunami affected women and what are the entrepreneurship projects that are developed). After the exposition of the experiences, the participants will be invited to represent, through female elements, the image of this woman that is the protagonist of a new economy all around the world. The question that will lead this moment in the workshop is: Based on the examples of women presented by Brazil and Sri Lank, which elements (characteristics, feelings, thoughts) makes the woman who represents all women who are fighting for a another economy? Disposed in semi-circle, the participants will be invited by the Brazilian exhibitor to answer this question by taking the elements that will be represented by pictures/carts and post it in the wall, which will contain a “doll”, a figurative way to represent the woman, in a general way. In the end, after a quick evaluation of the workshop, a mystical practice will be performed by all the participants. |

The aim of the workshop is talk and act together to solve world problems without being prejudiced against one another. We want to solve the problems of OUR planet thus White, Black, Asian, Latino etc would have to learn to work together without underestimating each other. There is no quick-fix solution to this issue/challenge. There can only be an attempt to raise awareness as well as train people to respond differently to people and situations. That is what this workshop will be aimed at doing. |

Engaging in Our Communities as Global Citizens is a national, bilingual, pedagogical resource based the universal values of the environment, peace, democracy and solidarity. The resource offers classroom activities enabling youth to act as responsible citizens in the classroom, the school, the community and the world, as they strive towards the ideal of a viable future. There are four themes identified as values that comprise this classroom workshop: Environment, Democracy, Peace and Solidarity. These values will increase awareness and sensitize students to global issues and make them realize we are all one community striving to live quality lives. These four values will ultimately lead to the engagement of students to make a difference. These four fundamental values* can guide our actions and that’s where Student Engagement comes in. By internalizing these values in a global context, students can increase their engagement within the classroom, the school, and the community, ultimately leading to activities that can impact on the lives of many, and promote sustainability at various levels. |

| World Program for Human Rights Education: from formal and non-formal school to the International Governmental Organizations |
In the last decade, the literature on Human Rights Education has increased enormously. Why this approach in education suddenly interests so many people? What is so special about that it became the ultimate mission of the school? Many authors see HRE as the answer to the complex challenges of the modern world. Nevertheless, this approach is at its first steps and unfortunately the actual overview is more theorical than practical. Therefore this workshop will identify good practices in Human Rights Education around the world in formal and non-formal school and international governmental organizations. | Improvisation as a teaching skill |
Class management is one of the major difficulties that face inexperienced teachers. However, with time, they develop confidence towards unexpected events, in part because of their capacity to improvise. But, is it possible to train an apprentice teacher to become more effective in interactive teaching in order to avoid discipline problems, be more creative and student-centered? The speaker will lead the group in an improvised warm-up/introduction activity to this round table. He will then present results of a study identifying components of an improvisation training that come to play in the management of unexpected events in high-school level classrooms and describe an improvisational training pilot project for future high school teachers. A discussion on the characteristics of teacher training programs in other countries as well as the place given to improvisation, theatrical games or oral communication in these programs will then be initiated, interrupted by short improvisation activities designed to relaunch discussions. Discussions will no doubt lead to the advantages of improv training in other fields than education. |

| Interactive Fundamental Skills and Globalization Challenges |
This workshop will focus on the necessary skills that an activist needs to reach his/her spectators. This workshop is a summary of my experience that I wish I would be able to deliver to all WYC participants. I. Fundamental skills which I am tackling, are: 1) Presentation Skills- Here we are going to go together through the essential skills needed to clarify your cause in a very creative interactive way, all participants involved will be part of the presentations activity 2) Communication Skills- Language is just an agreement between people that certain voices make certain works that our mind can translate/understand in certain way! How to use this language tool efficiently and touch other people’s feeling without any misunderstanding… this is our main aim. 3) Fund Raising Skills- All of you for sure have tried this one, either to get a ticket to come here or in another situation… lets share our knowledge by each one of us telling his/her own story within a friendly atmosphere and let’s correct our mistakes by ourselves. 4) Creative Thinking- This part will be more like examples and brainstorming and not lecturing as I believe that the only way to think out side the box is by delivering idea in an interactive frame (Dialogue and Activities) and not a monologue (lecturer method). II. Globalization Challenges is a discussion between the participants to help in “practicing democracy” concept. It’s about how to face increasing challenges submitted by the big corporate formed by globalization concept and how as activists to cope with them. |

| Peace Child International: Be the Change Academies – Centres for Youth Job Creation |
In several places around the world, young people in the Peace Child network have felt a need for a youth-run centre to help them gain employment – either through gaining employability skills, or being assisted to create a business plan, getting the business plan funded through a revolving loan fund – then having their business incubated and mentored for the first couple of years. This workshops hears from each of those who have thought about the idea – and then breaks into small groups – to discuss the details, then re-forms into a plenary to discuss next steps and how to get these excellent initiatives operationalised.
