Xtactics: Birthing new Hubs for Concious Community (3 hr) Our world is changing rapidly, and this is calling for new forms of infrastructure to support the development of our local communities and our global networks of change-agents. On the global level, this shift is manifesting as international networks which use technology and social networks to interweave and collaborate. On the local community level, we are witnessing the emergence of new kinds of community spaces, which support individuals to grow, connect and collaborate in new ways to deliver their own gifts, as well as creating focal points for the many emergent tools, visions and organizations to connect with people and make a difference. These new kinds of community 'hubs' play an increasing role as meeting places, vision incubators, creativity centers and organizational facilities that are birthing a variety of new forms that are reshaping art, technology, education, healing, local economy and more. The subject of this workshop will be the vision and practicalities of creating a network of visionary community spaces in many communities across the globe.

Hawaii Hui : THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE: message art collaboration The base and focus of this project is to demonstrate a workshop on how you can use art to express thoughts, views and opinions about issues that you feel strongly about, to work together and collaborate with others, to create art with influential meaning. Our main goal for this project is to get participants at the congress involved hands on in making visual messages. Visual arts used to express feelings and emotions about serious issues. Before one can make a difference to the world, they should make one to themselves first. Creative art ideas will be used to express powerful and meaningful messages. Current issues that are certainly not new, but more mainstream now may be the inspiration or cause behind artworks. Individual works as well as group collaboration of different art medias will be offered. The purpose of this workshop is to provide all those who participate with the basic tools and motivation to make a difference on there own. The outcome will be collaboration of not only art, but of all the people who came together to create it. The pieces may be shared and discussed, and ultimately given away to pass on and share with others. The overall impact we hope to give is a personal one to each involved. We hope that through this workshop you can gain a motivation to express very serious issues in a fun creative way, powerful messages expressed visually in a way that can be easily understood by all people.

Creative writing workshop: changing worlds with ink... Writing is a way of expressing yourself! The cliché is true. And not only writing in a formal way. Sometimes a story or a dairy can say a lot more than an 'objective' academic article. Especially for youngsters writing can be a way of getting their voice heard. But how can you include creative writing in your youth projects, NGO, etc. without imitating the boring way some schools handle it. If you want to learn more about creative writing and would like to 'feel the vibe of the ink' in some entertaining exercises - Bring your pen and come to our workshop!

“Educational Industrialization” and a Progressive, Sustainable Democratic Society Mainstream public debate on education tends to marginalize fundamental issues with the school institution's systemic logic and educational philosopy, which are in considerable disrepair. Yet they concern the fulfilling of the institution's social mandates, and society's readiness to address the overwhelming challenges in the 21st century. I shall begin with the linear, binary logic and modularized thinking in school, the current system of incentives of merit, incentives and disincentives, and the institution's structure - and their direct impact on the student. Discussion will be expanded to connect school's issues with implications in other social institutions, including the international community's "silo" structure when dealing with complex issues, the rational structure and its culture of expertise and specialization, and their implication on the preservation of democracy, the public's intellectual integrity, sustainable development, and the destiny of humanity in the critical juncture of the 21st century.

Charity and Entrepreneurship Many of us are familiar with the term social enterprise, which combines the idea of business and charity. In Singapore, we have a programme called CitiBank-YMCA Youth for Causes. It is an annual fundraising competition piloted in 2003, which later has been proven to be a runaway success. With S$160,000 (about US$110,000) seed fundings granted to 100 teams of inspiring youth, the programme raised a total amount of S$650,000 (about US$470,000) for 52 non-profit organizations and reached out to one million people across the whole island in year 2007. Today, I will be sharing with delegates from different countries, about how young people in Singapore carry out charity projects with entrepreneurial skills, how they manage their seed funding and kick start a fundraising project, what are the marketing gimmicks during their sales, how they raise up public awareness and outreach to thousands or tens of thousands of people and many interesting stories happened in Youth for Causes. Have fun and be inspired!

You simply have to grab a camera and film the world as you imagine, you can create characters, ideas or feelings, you can share your vision with others. In this Workshop, you’ll create a slideshow with movies, music and photos, from importing and cropping video clips to adding cool special effects and transitions, you’ll learn how to present it to a local audience. I’ll share with you lots of tips so you can wow your family or friends with your future movies. This workshop is geared for those with beginner to advanced computer skills who are interested in showing off their perspective about the world. I expect to create a real interest in this area and to propose the participants to imagine and to shoot a one minute video. It's about stereotypes and prejudices and ways to overcome these. What are your dreams, fascinations, fears, expectations and passions? Where do you come from? What do you see around you? Or maybe you feel left out?
