In order to participate you first need to figure out what category you would like to be part of: |
Young Development Activist more...
These are young people who have done, or are planning to do, an innovative project in the field of development and wish to present the results of their experience at the Congress – either at the Congress Exhibition, or in a Skills Workshop. Projects can be in the field of community development or social enterprise – education, health-care, infrastructure development: building roads, water supply and sanitation systems etc. We are also keen to include the experience of young entrepreneurs who have started their own small businesses – or who want to start an income-generating project. Small project grants are available to young activists to support very special Youth-led Development projects ahead of the Congress.
Apply Now to get one of these grants!
A few places in this category will be reserved for those who have shown exceptional leadership in youth organisations that promote and empower youth to action in the political field – student unions, lobbying groups, political action groups etc.

Young Artist / Performer more...
The World Youth Congress series is famous for the quality of its cultural programmes. So we are looking for the best young performers in the world whose work carries a message that relates to the empowerment of young people to rise to their generational challenge of making poverty history in a sustainable way, or of promoting human rights, or ways to help the United Nations achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
Fill out the form to explain to us a little bit about the nature of your work and experience: if we are interested, we will get back to you with a request for photographs, videos, press cuttings etc. APPLY NOW!! – to add to the amazing cultural heritage of the World Youth Congress Series!

Young Educator more...
This is a new category and we are hoping for a flood of young teachers and student teachers to apply. Education has been a key issue for the World Youth Congress series ever since delegates to the First Congress in Hawaii voted Education the ‘Number ONE priority for the New Millennium.” But they had a caveat: they wanted education to be “appropriate to the challenges we shall face in our lifetimes…” In other words – not just of the same old, same old subjects but education about climate change, sustainable lifestyles, human rights, peace – education, in other words – that will help the generation currently passing through schools save our planet from the mess the current generation of world leaders seem determined to leave it in!
If you are a teacher with innovative ways of addressing these global challenges, and you would like to share your experience with young teachers with similar passions from other countries, please APPLY NOW!! At the end of this congress, we plan to gather all the ideas that we have received from Youth Educators, to create a booklet on innovative ways to Educate to Save the Planet from around the world. Please join in the creation of it!

Young Journalist more...
We have long understood that many millions more young people will receive the messages of the Congress via TV, radio and newspapers than can ever attend. So – from the first one, we have welcomed young reporters to come and communicate the amazing stories of the young people gathered at each Congress to the wider world. If you are a working young journalist,an experienced freelance, caricaturist or a blogger APPLY HERE – and come cover one of the most extraordinary youth events the world has ever seen! |
Young Observers more...
Interested in youth-led development but have not done anything in the field yet? Apply as an Observer ( Approximately 60 places will be available based on geographical origins)– get your education about the field from the best in the business, and get inspired to go out and become a highly effective development activist yourself!
[Note – no scholarships are available for Observer participants.]

Fees: As in the past, every delegate is responsible for paying his/her own travel to the Congress. Unfortunately we are not in the position to provide free participation for each delegate. Therefore all participants are expected to pay a registration fee of Canadian - $350 as well as their transport. These fees cover all meals accommodation and local transportation for the duration of the congress. It should be acknowledged that the actual cost of your stay in Québec city (meals, accommodation and local transport) is approximately 650$ CND per participant so your contribution only partially covers those costs. It has always been and will continue to be the local organization’s priority to keep your cost to a minimum. We realise that there will be people coming, especially those from developing countries who will need bursaries. Note that this bursary fund is only intended for those who have completed an action project. Observers will have to cover all their costs.
Please note that there is no way we can give participation fee bursaries to all 600 participants. So understanding this in your application please state:
I can pay the $350 CND
I can afford $250CND
I can afford $150CND
I can only attend if my participation fee is paid.
Also remember, if you do not live in the USA, Japan, Australia or the EU, you will have to buy a Canadian single entry visa: this can cost up to C-$75 and there is no way we can get around this!
Finding Sponsorship: You will be notified whether your application has been selected no later than December 31st 2007. This leaves you many months to raise the required amount. We are seeking to make as many partnerships as possible with different governments, corporations and NGOs in order to get them to support their country delegates to attend the conference. We will do our utmost to identify as many as possible sources of funding to cover participation fees and airfares where possible. But don’t rely on us. You need to be creative and find ways to fundraise within your community, through elected officials, businesses, organisations, individuals, Student unions etc.

You will get an e-mail to the e-mail address you supplied in your application form confirming that your application has been received.
If you apply as an Activist, your application will be judged chiefly on the basis of the quality of your project application or the project you have done. We urge as many activists as possible to apply to do a new project between now and the Congress so that you have a recent experience to present and discuss at the Congress. So – if you have not already done so – please click here to fill out a new project application.

To post your project you will need to become a member of our organizational partner Taking It Global (TIG). Why? The technology used to post your projects was developed by TIG and for that reason they require that you become a member of their network. Being a member not only lets you showcase your project, it also gives you access to TIG’s resources and services and its network of over 150 000 dynamic youths across the world.
If we have any queries or questions about it, we will get back to you by e-mail before the 31st October Deadline. International applications will be reviewed by a panel of young people from around the world at the Peace Child Headquarters. They will generate a short-list. Short-listed applicants will be reviewed by our Canadian partners at TakingITGlobal and in Quebec City and a final list agreed by December 1st. Canadian applications will be reviewed by a panel of Canadians assembled by the local organisation in Quebec City and TakingITGlobal . They will generate a Canadian short-list which will be reviewed by Peace Child International and a final list agreed by December 1st.
