Partner Organizations
- join us in promoting effective Youth-led Development -
The purpose of the World Youth Congress (WYC) series is to gather youth, government, aid agencies and interested individuals who share the belief that youth, working in partnership with other stake-holders, can play a major role in helping to end poverty in a sustainable way.
The central question we are trying to answer is: “What is the most effective role that youth can play in development?” We feel the best way to answer it is by having all stake-holders in one place: those who take concrete actions, those who study and assess development and those who finance or support it. It is only by learning from each other what has worked and what should be tried that the field of Youth-led Development (YLD) will grow and mature. In the Congress exhibition, workshops, website and final report, all partners will have an excellent opportunity to showcase their achievements and advance their particular arguments for what they feel is the most effective role for youth.
Each Congress of the WYC Series is a catalyst for expansion of the YLD field – deepening our understanding of the challenges connected to involving the 51% of the world’s population that is under 25 in the effort to make poverty history while identifying best practice methodologies that enable young people to achieve the best possible results in the development field.
The Quebec City Congress is, itself, being managed as a partnership between Peace Child International, Taking IT Global and a local Quebec Youth organisation. We seek a wide diversity of partners from large international agencies to small single issue non governmental organisations (NGOs). All have something to teach us about improving YLD - even if some of them will not be represented to the Congress. The power of the website and the Virtual Congress is that all partners can have a presence at this Congress and a stake in its outcomes whether they attend or not.
In our search for partners, as for delegates, we seek chiefly those who are ready to take action: those who will support and finance projects in their communities, pay for the transportation of selected delegates to Quebec City, or help to promote the WYC and its goals, etc. We seek partnerships primarily in order to gather the evidence of more than a thousand projects around the world carried out by young people and present it in Quebec City in August 2008 as a critical mass of evidence of where young people are making their most effective contributions to the development effort.
In this part of the website, each section is laid out with an introduction and a description of what we expect from each category of partners. So if you wish to join us in promoting effective YLD, please fill out the simple form, click submit - and become a part of the global family of partners working to ensure that this generation actually does Make Poverty History - and doesn’t just talk about doing so!
